Winter Break

Winter Break

This winter break my main Christmas gift was a kitty. It was actually a gift for my dad, but since he hates cats, I have been caring for it. We have had it for over a week, but he still has no name. My sister wants to name him Bijou, which is French for trinket or jewel and my dad wants to name him Sushi. Over the break I spent a lot of time either playing with him, feeding him or cleaning him. And though he is quite a bit of work, it’s great to have a new pet in the house.

Flagpole Fighters Final

This week in class, we were given fake band names and genres. My band was Flagpole Fighters and the genre was Punk Rock. After looking up some real punk logos I saw that several were black with creepy Gothic writing.  Since my band is called the Flagpole Fighters, I created a flag with the paint tool and the flagpole with the rectangle tool. Then I used the specific brushes to make the design on the flag and under the words. I used red to look almost like blood since the name is Flagpole FIGHTERS. Finally, for the words, I tested several different fonts until I found one that I thought fit.

Flagpole Fighters- Punk Rock

My fake band is called Flag Pole Fighters and the genre is Punk Rock which I hate. I’m thinking of doing a creepy black flag with the words Flag Pole Fighters on it and maybe a picture of a soldier.

Abstract

Abstract

Today, our class listened to John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme”. It was a jumble of instruments, sounds, and images, and we were told to create whatever abstract images came to mind. It began fairly simple and normal, but as the song went on it seemed to mix several music types together as one. To show this in art, I began with simple black and white shapes in the background and then gradually added color and molded the shapes so that they looked like blobs of paint. I really enjoyed this project, because we were not given a specific task. We just made art.

Twiggy

During this past week, our assignment was to illustrate over a photograph of a famous person, so that without the picture behind it, you could recognize who that person was. We were inspired by the ‘Obey’ and ‘Hope’ pictures which consist of very few colors.   We used illustrator to do this and I liked it a thousand times more than photoshop. I chose to illustrate a picture of the 60’s era model, Twiggy. For the original picture, I chose a photo that is one of her most well- known. I used the pen tool for nearly everything and then filled the lines with an appropriate color. The only actions I did not use the pen for, were the thin lines around the nose and  side of face. I loved this project and I’m very proud of the way it turned out!

Repaired Photo

To create this picture I first found a damaged old photo on Flickr. Next, I put the image on Photoshop and used the ‘healing tool’ to patch up some spots such as the doorway behind the women, stains on their legs and the ground, and scratches on the border. Next, I took the clone took and ran it around the border, fixing up the bends and tears on it’s edges.
